Then I saw this as Frank Castle hops into an E46-era 3 series and peels out to chase after the crew of bad guys:
Seriously, Hollywood? No one caught that he obviously puts the car in * fifth* gear to haul ass out of there from a dead stop?
Goddammit.

He had to put in into Overdrive.

I’m not up to that episode yet, but I’d say “ going okay” is just about right.
You have to suspend a fair bit of disbelief to enjoy these. This is just one more bit I guess one has to ignore.

I looked at it thrice to make sure I wasn’t going crazy and missing something like that —no editing mishaps, he gets in on the left. Besides, why would the production have a RHD BMW on hand? And the chase is in downtown New York City, so he doesn’t have room to get up to fifth later in the chase and they just cut it into the start by mistake.
I mean nothing judgemental, but I wonder if it’s as simple as Jon Bernthal doesn’t drive stick, and no one noticed/wanted to be the one to tell him.

Yeah, on a more seriou s note: to me the whole series so far is mixed bag; the production values, the action, it’s pretty good. The lead is exactly the intimidating, gruff, yet conflicted character that is needed. It’s nice to have a Marvel series that doesn’t revolve around superpowers, too. And yet, the ever-present ‘ violence solves everything’ m .o . really makes me consider some validity to the criticisms that talk about “toxic masculinity.”
On a less broad note, the plot for season 2 feels like it's three smaller chunks lined up in sequence--I'm not sure how to smooth out the transitions, but it's something that occurs to me. And some of these people shoot like they're part of the 501st Stormtroopers.

The shootout montages where nobody gets hit are pretty comical. All-in-all I like The Punisher and think they found the absolute best actor to fill the role. But it definitely has it's flaws

I do agree he’s fantastic fit.
It’s funny to watch him in the movie “Sicario,” though; he has a bit part where he just crumbles being interrogated by Benicio Del Toro. And re-watching it now, I just can’t remove him from the much tougher persona displayed here in “Punisher.”

I was a little disappointed that the main plot device behind the girl’s situation was just a parents trying to hide som’s homosexuality. I realize that could be a huge problem if your base is bible thumpers, but it seemed a little anemic against the trail of blood and dead bodies it left.
It’s also getting hard to see the difference between Castle and the alleged baddies that kill to further their agendas. It’s an interesting idea to explore how the line blurs, but this is a hero show, and it’s important to be able to get behind the hero. Otherwise all the violence gets depressing.

What’s really comical is the amount of punishment the Pumisher takes and keeps on ticking. In the morning he takes the bandage off his broken hand, and in the afternoon he’s punching faces with it.

Also true.
I guess the months of recovery and long-term side-effects from being beat half to death on the regular aren’t as screen w orthy

I had a hard time buying that, too.

Also, the Pilgrim character is introduced saying, “Please refrain from profanity again”—wait, you can’t abide some rando saying “shit” around you, but you have absolutely no qualms violating that whole “thou shalt not kill” commandment...

I keep shaking my head at that moron thinking, “how the hell are they going to explain this guy?”
Oh, sorry, profanity.
